Medical Assistance:

There is a Medical Centre in Dinan – the Centre Medical Dinannais – at 3 rue de la Mouton (Tel. no. 02 96 39 09 02). There are at least 10 doctors based here. (The receptionists are very helpful and Dr. Cottereau speaks some English – 2016). The quickest route to the Centre is along the motorway. Take the Dinan Centre exit and head towards Dinan. Go straight over the first roundabout down the divided highway. At the second roundabout go back on yourself (up the road you have just come down) and after 200 metres turn right. The Medical Centre is 150 metres up the road on your left..

According to the Tourist Office …”if you need a hospital the CENTRE HOSPITALIER RENÉ PLÉVEN in Dinan is open 24/7 and the emergency number is 02 96 85 72 00.”

Dentist: In July 2108 a guest visited the Centre de Santé (tel no. 02.96.88.75.78) at 9 Place Duclos. He was given an on emergency appointment on the same day which cost 25 euros. Shopping:  There is a large Intermarche about one and a half miles from the house. To get there, retrace your steps to the main N176 road that you turned off when you arrived from St. Malo or Caen. When you go under the bridge turn left at the roundabout taking the last exit and follow the road down under the N176 again. Once you have gone under the bridge go straight over the roundabout and you will see a slip road on your right into the shopping centre. You cannot come out of the shopping centre using the slip road. Instead you turn left at the roundabout at the bottom of the hill where you came in. You then drive round the shopping centre and just after the Magazine Vert you come to another roundabout. Turn left here. You will pass a small Lidl on your left. Go past it and you will come to a second roundabout where you can turn left onto the road back to La Quinardais. There is an open country market in the main square in Dinan on Thursday morning. There is an old covered market called “Les Halles” in Dinan open every day apart from Sunday that has fresh produce every morning. It is also a good place for coffee or a snack. There is also a little summer market on Friday evenings in the La Grand’Cour in Taden. There is a large open air pool at Lehon (just the other side of Dinan) that is open during July, August and September. It is open between 12.00 and 19.30 on Mondays, Tuesday, Wednesdays and Thursday and between 12.00 and 20.00 on Fridays. (N.B. They are very strict about the swimwear that you can wear and men are not allowed to wear shorts.)

Adults are charged 3 euros entry fee and children 2 euros. (2013). Lehon is well worth a visit even if you are not swimming. The area down by the river is very pleasant. There is an indoor pool opposite the cinemas on the main road into Dinan if you drive past the Intermarche. (I have no reports on the facilities.) There is also an indoor sea water swimming pool on the front at Dinard, but it can be a bit cold as it is not heated. There is always the sea at St. Jacut or Pen Guen and there is a small sandy beach at Mordrieuc on the River Rance where the famous seal lies out on the quay and the kids can paddle.
